A SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY

This may the most sentimental thing that I have ever posted, for I must tell you about a subject that is close to my heart. Today marks the tenth anniversary of the day that Harold and I laid down our accordion and guitar for good. Many of you may not have realized that we were ever in the music ministry, alas friends that was to your misfortune. Actually we formed our group around the same time that "Vision" was formed. I could never figure out why they became so much more popular than us. I guess people were more impressed with their close knit harmony than with our rather disjointed sound. We did have a few good hits though, like the one we were singing in the picture above "God Ain't Never Had A Grandchild". It always seemed to speak to the two or three who gathered in to hear us sing. Some days I just have to break into a round of my Dad's favorite song, "Can He, Could He, WOODY".
It was through some very wise counsel that we came to the realization that maybe this was not to be our life's calling. So Harold went on to Moody Aviation and I went to nursing school. I will say that we are very fulfilled with the life we now lead, but there are days when the desire to just belt one out is almost more than I can contain. Please sing a little song today in remembrance of "VernaDean", the group that almost made it.

PS Thanks to Rochenda ,a devoted fan, for preserving the picture for us.

ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!! There's still time to cultivate your musical interest. Just think of the potential your family has. Harold could play, "There is a Fountain", in the only key he knows, hopefully it won't be to high. You could give the boys voice lessons and have a quartet and you could play the accordian.

Ah, Kayla, this post was worth the anticipation which you promised to me!!! Those were certainly the days! Derek and I were having a good laugh last night about when he and Harold tried to cook dinner for us gals on one of our dates. Steak in the oven, and dried out baked potatoes!! What a hoot!

Great talking with you the other night. Have a great day! Love ya!

P.S. I'm still trying to figure out how to transfer some of my funny "sentimental journey" pics from my scrapbook to the blog page. There sure are some good 'uns. :)

I am deeply saddened to remember what might have been. By sheer enthusiasm alone I'm sure you could have made a go of it. Many music groups have made it on less. However, I'm happy to know that you are both fulfilled and happy in your chosen callings. But, you know, you both just looked so natural with the accordian and the guitar. *sniff* Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

A thought: if you ever decide to do a best hits album. Keep me in mind. ;) Thanks for another laugh out loud post!

You are a scream! Are you sure there is not a video or D.V.D. available? Maybe you could still make a little money be sending a copy with the quartets as they travel around. You could use the proceeds to buy the seafood that you love so. I think I would continue to work with the Martin quartet. God does not give a family 4 boys without a special reason . You made my day!

Hi Kayla, I am now home and wondering what am I suppose to do. It has been a busy summer. But now I am going to have to change the order of my course. Now that I am home I am going to have to create some different kind of blogs for I don't have the boys to get pictures to share. I have to depend on Ruth for that now.
I pray you and your family have a blessed day. Love & Prayers, Eileen

Verna in the Vernadean;
I thought your group was the bomb! I remember being one of the three at your concerts. It was so fun to sit there just me, Mr. Woody and Mrs. Nellrina. We were moved and couldn't figure out why everyone would rather be over at the CEC listening to the Finney's. They were good, but did they ever pull out an accordian? NO!

I never realized that I would have such a huge response to my journey down memory lane. Thanks to most of you for your support. For the few of you who seem to insinuate that music lessons would be good for us to invest in, I am highly offended. My opinion has always been "if ya got it, ya got it, and if ya don't, ya don't, just it let it go". We had it, it just didn't last. So there.
We had it, it just didn't last.

Kayla, THAT IS TOOOO HILARIOUS!!! Oh, I would have loved hearing y'all! =D

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I don't remember daring you to kill yourself and skate down a hill, but I'm sooooo sorry if I did. (I'm sure I must've, but am getting to "old" to remember! =) I trust that you have healed both from the scars and the bad memories. =)

Love, Heather =)

Well, I am late to the game...sorry I missed seeing this one...it was tooooo great! (And there may have to be a series here...Julia, remember the pics of us w/the accordian?)
Speaking of that, I must say that some of my most treasured memories were when VernaDean and the Fullers were at the same camps as workers...precious times. It was so fun when you and me and Mrs. Fuller would trio w/accordian accompiament. Sweeter sounds were never heard. Please add this to your service approach next time you're fund-raising!

And I also totally agree w/your music philosophy...why fix what ain't broke with book-learnin?!:)
